Regular preventative oral care is a wise investment.
We hope you share our belief that early care is easier and less costly than treatment delayed. This is why we custom design and encourage regular preventive maintenance visits. These visits and their frequency during the year are determined by your particular dental health and needs.
Both the American Dental Association and your Ithaca dentist, Dr. John Comisi, recommend you have a dental cleaning approximately once every six months. Some patients will need to have this done more frequently. This essential portion of an overall oral health regimen helps in removing the leftover and hard to reach bacteria and plaque your everyday brushing and flossing habit could not.
How it's done:
Typically your cleaning will last approximately one hour. The cleaning will be handled by one of our amazingly skilled hygienists, with a follow-up exam to be performed by Dr. Comisi.
Re-care visits, after intial diagnostic evaluation at our office, consist of reviewing and updating of the patients medical history, examination of the head, neck and thyroid areas of the patient, oral cancer screening, examination for the detection of decay and periodontal (gum) disease, as well as preventive dental cleanings, which involves removing plaque and tartar from the teeth above the gum line.
